A man who tried to break into the Israeli embassy in London to carry out a knife attack has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 20 years. Abdullah Albadri was carrying two knives when he attempted to get inside the embassy in Kensington on 28 April 2025, before being detained by armed police. The 34-year-old from Kuwait had arrived in the UK on a small boat 16 days earlier. He was previously found guilty by a majority verdict of preparation of terrorist acts and possession of two bladed articles. Albadri's trial at the Old Bailey heard how he was motivated to plot the attack by the death of Palestinians in Gaza.

Trump's Board of Peace unveils $2.45bn plan to begin Gaza's reconstruction US President Donald Trump's Board of Peace has announced a Gaza recovery plan worth $2.45bn (£1.85bn) during a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. The funding will be spread across 66 programmes over six months, and directed at housing, diesel generation and waste removal, among other needs. But the board admitted substantial donations were still needed, with $18bn pledged but only $280m handed over so far. The board estimates full recovery and reconstruction will require about $71.4bn over the next decade. Jared Kushner, Gaza Executive Board member and Trump's son-in-law, conceded the project faced different delays on different things, for whatever reason.

"NAZA" Puts Israel Face to Face with the War in Gaza In this documentary, Israeli military and intelligence sources reveal systems, policies, and practices that have resulted in high numbers of civilian deaths and widespread destruction. In November, 2023, and April, 2024, the Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham wrote a pair of articles about the high number of civilian casualties in the attacks that Israel launched in Gaza in response to Hamas's massacre of Israelis on October 7, 2023. In these pieces, which appeared in English in and in Hebrew in, Abraham (who discussed his work with my colleague Isaac Chotiner after the second piece appeared) reported that these civilian deaths were the result of specific policies of the Israel Defense Forces. The I.D.F. had adopted a broad definition of legitimate human targets and was using A.I. to select them; it intentionally destroyed nonmilitary buildings and had chosen to accept a high level of collateral damage. These pieces received some attention, including criticism from the Israeli government and other journalists, but the response fell well short of public uproar.
